Houston Quilt Festival

SAQA Benefit 2013

Each year the Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA) offers 12" x12" pieces of art for auction.  The well known names are grouped and offered the first few days, the others are auctioned over the next month or so.  But some are selected to be in the silent auction at the Houston Festival.  This year my piece was selected to for the Houston Group.    I m so proud to be selected.  If you are going to the show, be sure to see this part of the exhibit.

Just for your information....the Art League of Lincoln's Member Show has been extended through Sept 26.  It's a great first show for the League.

It Sold!

I hoped you enjoyed seeing the piece shown below, because it SOLD.  A friend noticed that the piece had a red dot on the label and called me with the good news.  Thank you to whomever bought it.  Johnny Appleseed had won several awards and was a favorite with friends.

More good news.  Another good friend attended the Shenandoah Vineyards Artist Reception last Saturday (9/7).  While enjoying the show she saw my "Pumpkins" and  had to have them.   It is really great that she has this piece, because I can still see it whenever I wish.   Thank you to my friend Jan.

Hope you can see the show up in Plymouth because it is beautiful iwith good light, and a background of old wine barrel wood.  Let me know if you need more info.

It's Up for you to Enjoy

Tree on a Hill III

Jo's Bay Lights
Here are two of the new pieces I completed for The Artery show.  Theresa Haight and I worked long hours to create our art and the show.  It was hard work, but so much fun.  But the best part was the Artist Reception with all of our friends and family.  Artery management said it was the biggest turn out they could remember.  We had wine and food and just the best time.  Thank you to all who were able to attend.
I also have to thank my hubby who painted, hammered, and provided advice on hanging and construction.  Theresa is owed a big Thank You too for inviting me to join her and the  encouragement provided all along the way.
This was just the best fun ever!

2013 SAQA Benefit Auction

Tradition Squared
This is a 12" x 12" piece that I created from the edges of another piece.  The original was not balanced and I just could not figure out how to make it right.  On day as I was agonizing over it, the rotary cutter appeared in my hand, and then it was just right.  That piece went on to be accepted into the Houston Quilt Festival.  But what to do with the lovely edges?  Having learned from a good friend, never to throw anything away, the edges moved from place to place in my stash.  Last year Artful Women decided to do 12" squares and above is the result.  You can hang it on any side.  This week it will be sent off to SAQA for their on-line auction.
Go to SAQA.com to find the Benefit Auction starting in June.  A few will also be shown at the 2013 Houston Quilt Festival.  This is a wonderful way to get top name work for a fantastic price.  It also helps further the goals of SAQA - Studio Art Quilt Association.

The Weaverville Show

Here are some pictures provided by the Main Street Gallery in Weaverville CA.  Evelyn was nice enough to send pictures since the weather turned bad and we couldn't get to the artist reception.

The tree you will recognize as "Johnny Appleseed".  The second piece is special to me since it represents when I first "crossed over" to Art Quilting and eventually to Fiber Art.  I spent many hours trying to get the flying geese and triangles to move across the quilt.  It is densely quilted with many different motifs because I had just received my new sewing machine.
The show will last through Jan and it looks like the weather will be nicer in the next weeks.
